FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – October 30, 2014 – Baptist Health System (BHS) today announced a clinical affiliation with CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) that will enhance access to high-quality, affordable health care services and improve medication adherence for patients.
Through this collaboration, BHS patients will have access to clinical support, medication counseling, chronic disease monitoring and wellness programs available through any CVS/pharmacy store or MinuteClinic, the retail medical clinic of CVS Health. In addition, CVS Health will provide critical prescription and visit information to BHS physicians through the integration of a seamless, secured electronic medical record (EMR) system.
“Baptist Health System is committed to reinventing the way care is delivered in our communities,” said Keith Parrott, CEO of Baptist Health System. “We believe that the CVS Health affiliation provides an innovative and convenient resource for our patients, helps to lower the costs of care, and allows us to continue providing better health for more people.”
CVS/pharmacy will work with BHS to begin integrating EMR systems to streamline and enhance communication around each individual patient’s care. The integration will include the electronic sharing of messages and alerts from CVS/pharmacy to BHS physicians regarding medication non-adherence issues.
Over the past year, BHS has implemented several innovative, patient-focused initiatives to enhance access to high-quality care. BHS is reinventing the way care is delivered with its house calls program at Princeton Baptist Medical Center, a pilot program that brings a care team to a patient’s home to prevent unnecessary readmissions to the hospital. The System has also created a patient-centered medical home model, in which primary care physicians provide comprehensive, coordinated care that focuses on whole-person healing through all stages of life, including preventative care as well as chronic condition management. Additionally, BHS has implemented the Epic electronic health record, which facilitates the sharing of patient records across hospitals and the primary-and specialty-care physician network so that care can be better coordinated and waste, like duplicate tests, can be avoided.
With today’s announcement, Baptist Health System joins more than 40 major health systems and health care providers across the country, which are now also affiliated with CVS Health.
