FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – November 5, 2015 - Baptist Health System (Baptist) is pleased to announce the launch of Be Well Mobile, a 38-foot, custom-built Winnebago, designed to serve as a traveling primary care clinic for employers across central Alabama. Baptist unveiled Be Well Mobile on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 11:30 p.m. at 600 University Park Place, Birmingham, Ala.
Be Well Mobile is part of Baptist’s Be Well program, which is designed to reinvent the way employers support and encourage employees to prioritize their health. The mobile clinic will allow employers to provide employees with access to a clinic, equipped with a physician and nurse, which will visit their worksite and provide on-site preventive care and follow-up treatment for employees with both chronic conditions and acute illnesses. The Baptist Health Foundation provided the initial funding to support the construction of Be Well Mobile.
“At Baptist, we are focused constantly on delivering the highest level of care and providing better health for more people,” said Baptist Health System CEO Keith Parrott. “With its comprehensive mobile services, the Be Well program will increase efficiencies and, in turn, improve health outcomes for employers and employees throughout our communities. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring the healthcare to the workplace.”
The mobile clinic includes a check-in area, lab station, two examination rooms, and state-of-the-art wireless technologies.
“We really designed Be Well Mobile with the busy employee in mind,” said Anne-Laura Cook, M.D., medical director of population health management and primary care innovation at Baptist Health Centers and director of Be Well. “We provide everything a patient would receive from a primary care clinic, including interfacing with electronic health records, without having to travel to an offsite clinic. From sore throats and flu, to annual exams and follow-up visits for diabetes, the new unit offers us the capabilities to help employers keep their employees healthy and solves the long-standing problem of having to take time off work to visit the doctor."
In addition to its mobile clinic, the Be Well program offers partner employers additional services, including:
- Be Well On Site – works with employers to establish or enhance employee health clinics in locations that are easily accessible to employees on existing job sites.
- Be Well On Call – uses a web-based video chat service to expand access to care from the job site. In addition to video visits with doctors, individuals can use this resource to have digital visits with dietitians, diabetes educators, pharmacists and others professionals with skills and tools covering virtually any healthcare need.
- Five Modifiable Risk Factors to Prevent Chronic Disease Program - gives measurable focus to employee health, provides a framework for programming and invites people to take control of the aspects of their lifestyle that impact their health. Managing these five risk factors can add up to a positive impact for both an individual and a workforce.
- Tobacco Use
- High Blood Pressure
- High Cholesterol
- Excess Weight/Physical Inactivity
Be Well services are available to employers within the Baptist market region, encompassing approximately a 50-mile radius around Birmingham. This region includes Jefferson, Shelby, Walker and Talladega counties, but collaboration with companies beyond this region will be considered. Employers who are interested in participating or learning more about Be Well can visit baptisthealthalabama.org/BeWell.
