Our team will guide you through the surgical process and the recovery options available to maintain your weight loss. Baptist Health System’s bariatric surgeons provide three bariatric surgical options, usually performed through minimally invasive or laparoscopic techniques. Talk to your surgeon about which option is best for you. Results may vary.

Procedures

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) – this procedure creates a small pouch separate from the remaining stomach. As food is consumed, it is rerouted and gathered in the pouch and during digestion, it is slowly released, providing a full sensation with smaller food intake.

Adjustable Gastric Band (AGB)—this is a procedure that puts a “balloon” in the stomach that inflates and deflates with saline solution. Inflating the balloon restricts overeating by making the stomach feel fuller.

Gastric Sleeve (GS)—this procedure is an option for patients designated by their physician as high-risk due to body weight or other medical conditions. The surgeon removes a majority of the stomach, recreating a small, sleeve-shaped stomach about the size of a banana.
