Our God of Wonders

“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.” (Colossians 4:2)

Recently, very early in the morning, I was en route to a hospital in a neighboring town to pray with a friend before her preplanned surgery. In the predawn, driving along in the stillness, I was using the time for contemplative prayer. Suddenly, it was as if our creator God took a paintbrush and began to slowly paint the most enchanting sunrise across the early morning sky, filling it with swirls of the most exquisite colors. It seemed to glisten brighter and brighter until I literally gasped and started whispering, “Oh, my creator God, how awesome and wonderful You are! Thank You for allowing me to glimpse Your incredible handiwork! And thank You for Your faithfulness over my life.”  As I songwriter, I couldn’t help but start trying to capture what I was feeling in a song, expressing my love to my Heavenly Father who daily loads us with benefits, if we have eyes to see.

(1.) God of wonders, Great I AM ---Your love poured forth in Calv’ry’s Lamb

How can I help but love You?

You paint the sunrise of each day---It’s beauty takes my breath away

How can I help but love You?

When I fall down upon my knees ---For no one else can meet my needs

You promised You would hear my earnest cry!

And I know it must be true---Because my miracle comes through

And each day sufficient grace You provide.

(Chorus) How can I help--- but love You---For love is what You are

My Savior, my Redeemer---My constant Guiding Star

Abundant life You give to me---Laughter, friends and a fine family

But most of all---You give me Calvary

How can I help? How can I help

But loveYou?

(2.) Savior, Teacher, Holy One --- You came to earth as Mary’s Son

How can I help but love You?

You walked among us while on earth---Then died to give us second birth

How can I help but love You?

You left us to prepare a place---Where we shall see You face to face

In a land where we shall never, ever die!

But a Helper you would send--- A Comforter, a friend

The Holy Spirit in our hearts abides! (Repeat Chorus)

Prayer: Heavenly Father,   Thank you for the transcendent moments which leave us in awe of You. Like Moses, may we be aware of the times we are on holy ground and grow in the knowledge of who You are. Amen.
