Obedience, (compliance, agreement, submission) is a word that has a presence with it that we sometimes misunderstand.  It is the sum total of our faith. You can say that the act of obedience is driven by what we really believe.  We don’t obey because we believe God will perform miracles in our life, but because He already has performed them and we want to see them manifested.  He has already given us all things that pertain to life and godliness.  He has completed everything in and for our lives.  The work has been done and He is now resting at the right hand of our Father.  Consider the word in Isaiah 1:10-19 (NKJV):

"Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom; give ear to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah: “To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?” says the LORD. “I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs or goats. “When you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your hand, to trample My courts? Bring no more futile sacrifices; incense is an abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies, I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting. Your New Moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them.  When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood. “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor, defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.  “Come now, and let us reason together,” says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.

When obedience is practiced, we walk in the promises that God has already performed.  Recently believers were called to participate in a prayer walk at Citizens and God instructed and we were to follow (it’s just life).  I was given a slightly different set of instructions and carried them out; was attentive to hearing and felt good about what I was doing (obeying).  However when I was almost finished inside I was to detour to check on the team; I did.  After having our closing prayer together as they were about to depart, I had to return to finish my inside duties as I was instructed.  Upon finishing the inside task my last assignment was to walk one lap around the outside perimeter.  It was a hot day and since the team had finished their outside duties I was left alone to walk that one lap.  My first thought was to get into my car and drive the perimeter but I heard clearly in my spirit, WALK.  So I set out on my lonesome journey of obedience. I’ve driven the perimeter many a time and can tell you the distance seemed great especially on the back side of the hospital and that part of the lap was what I dreaded the most. As I treaded along it seemed to have been the shortest distance, maybe because of the fellowship I was having with the Holy Spirit.  I was reminded of the Scriptures in Joshua 1:

"After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, it came to pass that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying:  “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory.  No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.  Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

I was reminded that the walls of Jericho were already down in the spirit realm and the obedience in the natural brought the manifestation into the earth ream as they obeyed.  I couldn’t “drive” the perimeter I had to “WALK”.  I had to follow the instruction given or we as a team would have failed.  How many times have we caused the promises to be put on “halt”?  How many times have we aborted the promises of God with disobedience?

He is faithful and just and He will forgive our sin.  Thank God for His grace He offers us that we may do our first works over.  Let’s obey, let’s believe and let’s “See” it!

Prayer: Father, help us to love You and one another.  Help us to know we were created for good works because we are Your workmanship.  We will obey You and we will move forth in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
