People put their hope in many things in this life. Many times the object that people put their hope in lets them down, leading to hopelessness. Have you recently been there? Are you there right now?
Hope is an essential element of the human experience that can lead people to thrive when life becomes suffocating. Hope can help us find deeper meanings, foster stronger relationships, encourage thankfulness, and help us live healthier lives altogether.
So where can someone find that Hope? In the 6th chapter of the book Hebrews, the Bible tells us that God is the one who brings a never failing Hope when He becomes our refuge.
In Hebrews 6:19 it says, “This HOPE (God being our refuge) is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.”
The writer of Hebrews so effectively illustrates hope through the familiar metaphor of an anchor. Jesus used anchors on boats when he was on the Sea of Galilee. Anchors provide a security for a boat regardless of what lay above the water. Looking deeper into this passage, one can see how the sea can represent the world, the boat can represent a person, and the anchor can represent hope to hold a person’s life secure during the storms of life! Hope can protect our soul, mind, will and emotions. Hope can fill our thoughts, guide our choices and protect our emotions.
Whatever you are facing today in your life, I want to let you know that there is a God who loves you more than you will ever know. He made you in His image. He has a plan for your life. He offers forgiveness. He is trustworthy. He offers a new tomorrow. And He is always a prayer away. God can turn your hopelessness into hopefulness!
Prayer: Dear God. Thank you for being a refuge and anchor in the midst of life’s storms. Thank you for Your great love for me and that I can trust You! Help me to trust You in every area of my life. Help me to be an agent of hope to encourage others who need Hope for themselves. In Jesus' name, Amen.
