Medical Insurance

BHS offers 2 medical plans through BCBS of Alabama. Prescription coverage is offered through MedImpact. BHS pays a portion of the insurance premium each pay period. There is an initial waiting period before insurance coverage begins.

Dental Insurance
|
BHS offers 2 dental plans through BCBS of Alabama. There is an initial waiting period before insurance coverage begins. The Plans pay from 50% to 100% of covered charges, depending on the type of service and plan selected.

Vision Insurance
|
A voluntary benefit plan that provides an eye exam and lenses every 12 months and an allowance for frames every 24 months. Also provides LASIK coverage discounts.

Employees can contribute immediately upon hire to the Plan.
After 12 months of service, BHS matches $.50 of every $1.00 contributed to the Plan, up to 6% of base pay. Matching contributions are immediately vested.

BHS pays for one times annual base pay in term life insurance. Employees can purchase an additional 1, 2, 3, or 4 times annual base pay.
Employees can also buy spouse life insurance and/or child(ren) life insurance.

Long Term Disability Insurance
|
A benefit of 40% of base pay is provided at no cost to the employee. Employees can elect to pay for an additional 20% of long-term disability coverage.

Employee Assistance Program
|
A free confidential assessment, counseling, and referral service for employees and their family.
|
Flexible Spending Accounts
|
Employees can contribute to a health care and/or dependent care flexible spending account on a pre-tax basis. All reimbursements are tax free.

Individual Short Term Disability Insurance
|
Employees can purchase an individual short-term disability policy. Employees select an elimination period, a benefit period, and a monthly benefit amount (up to 60% of base pay).

Individual Critical Illness Insurance
|
Employees can purchase an individual critical illness policy. This insurance offers protection from the financial impact that can follow the diagnosis of certain critical illnesses, like a stroke or heart attack.

Earned Time Off (ETO)
|
A bank of time for vacations, BHS recognized holidays, sick days, personal days and birthdays. Time accrues each pay period and unused time rolls over to the next year, subject to a cap. Accrual amount is based on length of service.

Personal Illness Bank (PIB)
|
A bank of time for extended illness. Time accrues each pay period up to a maximum of 90 days.

Educational Benefits
|
BHS reimburses employees for tuition related to approved studies up to an annual maximum. BHS also offers interest free Education Starter Loans.

|

Tobacco Cessation Program
|
A free program for employees providing educational classes, materials and telephonic counselling sessions. A discount on BHS medical insurance is provided on completion of the program.

A program offering a free annual health screening as well as other wellness related programs. Participation is voluntary and confidential.

Business Travel Accident Insurance
|
BHS provides a life and dismemberment policy equal to $100,000 in life insurance that covers employees while traveling on company business.
